Native Planting #1 - Long Lake

Our first planting on Long Lake in 2024 was for a landowner looking to create an aesthetically pleasing shoreline buffer for his parents lake house. This lakefront was covered in invasive grasses and the shoreline was slowly eroding away.

After removing the invasive grasses, the site was mulched, and natives were planted that were suitable to the part-sun and dry, sandy soil conditions. Many of these native plants will grow roots longer than the height of a human being and will in turn help to prevent further shoreline erosion. The plantings totaled 700 sq. ft. of restored shoreline.

A DNR Healthy Lakes grant was utilized to help cover some of the corsts for these plantings. Some native plants that were chosen were Bur Sedge, Yellow Wild Indigo, and Sky Blue Aster.
