Native Planting #2 - Long Lake
Our second planting on Long Lake in 2024 was for the Imago Dei Village summer camp. After doing a planting with us in 2023, they came back to inquire about a 2024 project for their baptismal site. Not only were they looking to stabilize their heavily eroding shoreline, but they also wanted to create a beautiful, native habitat more accessible to those who will utilize the space in the future.
We worked with a team of volunteers to implement two native plantings and a biobag installation on their shoreline. Read more about the biobag installation here.
A Healthy Lakes grant and a Shawano County grant were utilized to help cover some costs. Natives planted in this area included Columbine, Golden Groundsel, and Tall Bellflower.
This three-day project was definitely one that required resilience and a shared vision. Although it was one of our hardest projects of 2024, it was one of the most satisfactory to see the finished product.
